A Brand New Year, A Brand New Start

Wow! Another year has passed and we’re on the brink of a brand new year… a clean slate where we can record what we wish… fulfil dreams… live large or… stay buried in failures and disappointments.

I’ve been doing some thinking on what goals I’d like to fulfil in this new year. The temptation to dwell on my disappointments and failures in 2006 is so very strong. The choice to not set new goal posts and dream new dreams for myself is attractive. But seriously, would it be what is best for me? I doubt so…

So here’s a couple of things I’m determined *not* to do.

1. I will not expect the world to provide my success

So many people seem to expect others to “owe them a living”. You hear of sob stories whenever an autosurf, hyip or other affiliate program crash.

Didn’t they read the small print that reminds us to only play with what we can afford to lose?

Its time to accept that the admins of all the various programs are out to make a buck/dollar too… that’s they’re priority. Not looking after our interests!

Action to take : Find something that captures your interest and has the potential to help you reach your goals. Then work on it! Nothing comes to those who do nothing.

2. I will get read to leave my comfort zone and get ‘dirty’

Being naturally lazy, I’d rather not do any work at all and still live well with spending money. Learning new skills or doing research on relevant topics is never easy. However, in order to be successful, sometimes you need to roll up your sleeves and do things that aren’t pleasant in order to get ahead.

For instance, if you’ve always hated doing sales but its one of the things needed in your business… then do it! Go out and talk to the people you need to talk to. Push your product.

Action to take : Determine what is needed for your business. Set out small steps to take in order to fulfil those needs. Then do the steps even if you don’t like to.

3. I will expect difficulties

Life is never a smooth sail, a bed of roses. There will be storms and thorns. Its part of life! Although we would all like to have it comfortable and easy, it rarely stays that way for long.

Accidents happen. Problems turn up. People cause us heartaches. When we set out a business plan, we need to plan for difficulties. We need to give allowances for delays or losses.

Action to take : Think of all the possible things that could go wrong. Then decide how you will deal with them if they do occur. Keep the list close by so you can refer to it when things do happen.

4. I will dream a dream; have a vision

If you don’t have a vision… you won’t achieve much. The higher you aim, the more likely you will succeed in some degree. If you aim for the stars, you may hit the moon. That will still be better than staying in the mud.

Make sure your dream is clear and specific. Don’t just say, “I want to be rich.” Say “I want to have a residual income of $X per month.”

Action to take : Dream a dream. Write down your vision statement and keep it where you can see it all the time.

5. I will use the power of my imagination

Imagination… an underused aspect of our minds. Learn to use it to visualise yourself achieving your dream. Imagine yourself fulfilling your goal in as much detail as possible – include tastes, sounds, smells, touch… everything that will make it as real as possible in your mind.

Work on your mental picture until it becomes crystal clear. Hold it in your mind and ‘look’ at it often. Remember that in the realm of imagination, there are *no* limitations!

Action to take : Develop a mental picture of where you want to be. What you want to be/have. Then look at it often.

6. I will develop the strength to handle failures

I was given a definition of “Strength” by a leading businessman recently.

“Strength is the ability to bounce back when you’re knocked down.”

Think of the Rocky movies. Everytime Rocky was knocked down during a fight, he got right back up and kept throwing punches. That’s the spirit that we need to cultivate. The singular focus on reaching a goal regardless of what life may throw at us.

I’m determined to make it big this year. I will be working hard at achieving an on-going income for myself and my family. We deserve and need it. I will depend on my own efforts and not others. I hope you’ll join me on my journey towards success.
